The German army has contracted Eurospike for the purchase of 1,500 Spike missiles, and hundreds of Integrated Control Launch Unit dismounted missile launchers.

The Eurospike is a joint venture between Israel’s Rafael, and Germany’s Diehl Defence and Rheinmetall Electronics. The JV entered a multi-year framework contract with the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw).

“Earlier this month, Eurospike signed a multi-year framework contract to supply SPIKE (MELLS in Germany) missiles & launchers to the German Army. The first order will provide 1,500 SPIKE rounds & hundreds of Rafael's new Integrated Control Launch Unit dismounted missile launchers,” Rafael said in a statement Monday.

The contract entails the manufacture of the Spike fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) and launchers locally in Germany by domestic firms.

The German Army is already using both the dismounted portable SPIKE (MELLS) launcher, as well the as the vehicle-mounted launcher on the German army Puma, Marder & Wiesel.
