Baykar Rejects Using British Tech in Bayraktar TB2 Combat Drone

Turkish drone manufacturer Baykar has rubbished a report claiming that it was able to develop sophisticated Bayraktar TB2 drones using technology imported from the United Kingdom.

"We never got it from you. It is very expensive (and) it does not work in all cases. We have designed and produced a much more advanced, cost-effective version of our own," Selçuk Bayraktar, chief technology officer at Baykar and the developer of the TB2, said in a Twitter post.

British daily The Guardian published on Wednesday that "vital assistance" from Brighton-based EDO MBM Technology in the form of supplying the Hornet missile racks helped Turkey become a major player in the armed drone manufacturing industry. The report alleges that the Bayraktar TB2 would have failed to fire missiles during tests if not for British technology.

In the ongoing Operation Peace Spring in Syria, ANKA-S and Bayraktar TB2 armed drones are being used. These drones were also reportedly employed by Turkish forces in their previous Syrian Operations- Euphrates and Olive Branch.
