Aselsan Wins Electronic Systems Contract For Turkey's MILGEM Frigate

Aselsan has been contracted to provide electronic systems to be fitted on Turkish frigates built under the country's MILGEM national warship program.

Under the contract, the company will supply navigation, communication, sonar and radar systems, weapons, electronic warfare systems, guided missiles, torpedos and electro-optical systems between 2021 and 2023.

The MILGEM project was initiated in 2000 to locally design and build a fleet of multipurpose corvettes (Ada-class) and frigates that will replace older ships. The 99.5 metre-long multipurpose frigates can be deployed in a range of missions, including reconnaissance, surveillance, early warning, anti-submarine warfare, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air warfare, and amphibious operations. The boats will be armed with a 76-millimeter gun, missiles and torpedoes. They can accommodate a crew of 93 and a Seahawk helicopter on their deck.
