Iraqi Troops Injured in 2nd Rocket Attack on US Base

Around a dozen rockets hit Camp Taji airbase just north of Baghdad, leaving two Iraqi soldiers injured, on Saturday.

"Over a dozen rockets landed inside the base, some struck the coalition quarters while others fell on a runway used by Iraqi forces. At least two Iraqi soldiers were wounded in the attack at Camp Taji," Iraqi officials were quoted as saying by the media.

Camp Taji airbase hosts US and other coalition troops. The fresh round of attacks come after 30 Katyusha rockets hit the same airbase nearly three days ago, leaving two American service members and a British military medic dead.

No one claimed responsibility for the Wednesday's attack. However, the US attacked five weapons sites associated with Iranian-backed Kata'ib Hezbollah militia on Friday, accusing them of the attack.

Marine Corps Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr said those sites — all within a 30-mile radius of Baghdad — were: the Nawar Ahmad rocket storage site; the Kata'ib Hezbollah advanced conventional weapons storage facility in Karbala; the Al Musayyib weapons storage site; and two locations at Jurf as Sakhr, one for storage of improved heavy rockets and another for propellant production and storage of advanced conventional weapons.

"The US is moving Patriot missile batteries into Iraq, as well, along with other systems, including a counter rocket, artillery, and mortar system, to defend the Patriot once it's in place," McKenzie added.
