China's Type 075 Amphibious Assault Ship Launch Tomorrow

The Chinese Navy’s second Type 075 amphibious ship (also called helicopter carrier) is expected to be launched in Shanghai on Wednesday afternoon.

On Monday, Maritime Safety Administration of China said that a new ship built by Hudong Zhonghua shipyard will undock from 1:20pm to 2:50pm. A water area of 1,500 meters long and 350 meters wide near the dock will be restricted for navigation, the release said.

Although the notice did not identify the ship, it is expected to be the Type 075 vessel since publicly available reports in March said that the ship is expected to be launched soon.

On April 11, a fire broke out in China’s first Type 075 ship. The Chinese state media citing naval experts reported that the likely cause of the fire was due to problems with the power and mechanical systems, sparks caused by electric welding, a fire in the kitchen or some flammable materials on deck.
