F-16 Crashes- Fifth USAF Fighter Jet Crash Since May

A U.S. Air Force F-16 combat jet crashed today, making it the fifth American fighter to hit the ground since May.

“A U.S. Air Force F-16 Viper assigned to the 49th Wing crashed during landing at Holloman AFB at approximately 1800 MDT today. The sole pilot on board successfully ejected and is currently being treated for minor injuries. Emergency responders are on scene; additional details will be released as they become available,” the U.S. Air Force said.

On June 30, pilot of an F-16 was killed when the jet crashed at Shaw AFB during a routine training mission.

Around mid-June, an F-15C Eagle fighter jet crashed under unknown circumstances into the North Sea. A U.S.A.F. F-22 aircraft crashed after a fly-past to honor COVID-19 first responders on May 15 at the Elgin AFB, Florida on May 15; followed by a F-35 jet crash at the same location on May 20. The pilots bailed out and were rescued in both the incidents.

In addition, a U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter jet launched from the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier crashed into the Philippine Sea on June 18.
