TAI’s Aksungur UAV Tested with Laser Guidance Kit

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) test-fired Aksungur unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with Teber laser guidance kit.

“Teber guidance kit-equipped Aksungur test-fired for the first time,” Ismail Demir, Chairman of Turkish Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), tweeted Thursday evening.

The Tebir laser guidance kit was developed by Roketsan. Attached to MK-81 (250 lb) and MK-82 (500 lb) general-purpose bombs, the kit converts bombs into precision smart ammunition.

Teber consists of a laser-seeker, a guiding kit – including an inertial navigation unit, global positioning system and missile computer – and a tail kit system. It was originally developed for integrating into F-16 jets.

Aksungur has a 750kg carrying capacity and is capable of performing long-term operations at an altitude up to 12,192m. On September 2, TAI announced that the UAV stayed in the air for 49 hours.
