BrahMos supersonic cruise missile featuring Indian propulsion system, airframe, power supply and other major indigenous components, was successfully test fired at 10.30 AM today from the Indian missile test range, Chandipur in Odisha on the Bay of Bengal.

The missile was successfully test-fired for its full range of 290-km during the launch jointly conducted by DRDO and BrahMos Aerospace.

With this successful mission, the indigenous content in the formidable weapon has reached a high value. The BrahMos Land-Attack Cruise Missile (LACM) was cruising at a top speed of Mach 2.8, an Indian MoD release said.

BrahMos, an Indo-Russian joint venture was earlier getting key components including propulsion systems from its Russian partner and was assembled in India.

The BrahMos can be deployed as an anti-ship and land-attack missile and can be launched from air, sea and land platforms.
