US, S.Korea Analyze New N.Korean ICBM

Military authorities in the U.S. and South Korea are studying a new road-mobile North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) unveiled during a parade on October 10.

The experts are analysing the ICBM’s specifications including how many warheads it can carry.

"The South Korean and the U.S. intelligence authorities are closely analyzing the weapons that North Korea unveiled, including one believed to be a new long-range ballistic missile," spokesperson of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) Col. Kim Jun-rak told reporters today.

Photographs being shared on social media show an ICBM whose front part is long, indicating its ability to carry multiple warheads and deliver large payloads. It is not clear if the missile is real or only a mock-up version. The missile was being transporting on a 11-axle 22-wheel transporter erector launcher (TEL).

The parade was held to mark the 75th anniversary of the ruling Workers' Party. A new submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) and several other modern weapons were also unveiled during the event.
