Modernized Russian Frigate Fires New Artillery Systems in Sea of Japan

The Russian Pacific Fleet’s Marshal Shaposhnikov modernized frigate has fired new artillery systems Peter the Great Gulf, the largest gulf of the Sea of Japan.

“The frigate successfully launched an anti-ship cruise missile of the Uranium complex against a towed sea shield. For the first time, a complex of artillery fires at air and sea targets was carried out in the Peter the Great Bay. Targets were fired from the A-190 universal shipborne artillery mount, which the ship received in the course of modernization, and the AK-630 30-mm six-barreled automatic artillery mounts. Torpedo armament tested,” the Russian Ministry of Defense announced Monday.

The Marshal Shaposhnikov entered service with the Russian Navy as a large anti-submarine warfare ship. The ship’s repairs with its upgrade are underway at the Dalzavod Ship Repair Center in Vladivostok in the Russian Far East. Shipbuilders repaired the frigate’s sea valves and hull structures and installed new equipment.

In addition to anti-submarine warfare and air defense capabilities, the frigate received Kalibr-NK, Oniks and Uran cruise missile launchers and advanced artillery armament. It will soon get Tsirkon hypersonic missiles. Following the upgrade of the Marshal Shaposhnikov, all seven Project 1155 ships are slated for modernization.
