Iran has test-fired a new medium-range smart missile that can fly as far as 300km.

“The missile is prepared for deployment in defense of our homeland. We are trying for our armaments in the area to firstly be smart, secondly be capable of automatic control function, and thirdly be surgical in nature,” Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari, commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Force, was quoted as saying by government-owned PressTV Sunday.

The location where the test was held was not revealed by the Ground Force commander.

Heydari noted that the test-firing was gauging the missile's precision of strike and destruction power.

Iran has in the recent past unveiled a host of new weapons including Bavar 373 and Khordad-3 missile systems; Zolfaqar-e Basir anti-ship missile with a range of more than 700km; vertically-launched Sepeher, Shahab-2 and Hodhod-4 drones; an armed ground based robot drone named Caracal after a type of wild cat found in parts of Iran; an indigenious kamikaze drone mounted on attack boats; helicopter carrier; speed boats; a new “space” rocket besides inaugurating a mass production line for advanced shoulder-fired missiles such as American Javelins.
