The Government of Canada plans to build small arms ammunition, gunpowder and capsule plants in Ukraine as part of its expanded cooperation with Kiev in the defense industry.
"The Government of Canada, represented by the Canadian Commercial Corporation, has sent a corresponding official letter to the State Concern UkrOboronProm. This is not only about the construction of a cartridge plant, but also about the construction of gunpowder and capsule plants," – said Kateryna Rogach, Advisor to the Director General of UkrOboronProm.
A letter to UkrOboronProm from the Canadian Commercial Corporation dated November 5 stated that a new company, Gold Leaf Munitions Inc., has been formed to finalize the creation of a small-arms ammunition depot, creation of a viable practical primer facility and support the modernization of the gunpower facility in Ukraine.
It should be noted that on June 1 this year, the State Concern "UkrOboronProm" and the Government of Canada, represented by the Canadian Commercial Corporation, reached agreements on cooperation in the field of strategic security, defense, aerospace activities and ammunition production by signing the relevant Memorandum of understanding (MoU), a UkrOboronProm release said.
Within the framework of the Memorandum, the UkrOboronProm and its subsidiary Company, Artem signed an agreement with the Canadian Commercial Corporation on November 5 initiating amendments to the June 1 MoU, significantly expanding cooperation in the defense industry.
Thus, in addition to the construction of a cartridge plant, the Canadian side proposes to build factories for the production of gunpowder and capsules to ensure a closed cycle of ammunition production in Ukraine.
The launch of this international project is designed to strengthen Ukraine's defense capability.
