Rostec Patents ‘Smart’ Cargo Parachute

The Technodinamika holding, a subsidiary of Rostec received a patent for a "smart" transport parachute system.

The system will allow landing cargo in a fully automatic mode with increased accuracy using the GLONASS or GPS system. At the moment, the development is undergoing flight design tests.

The automated cargo delivery system includes an amphibious platform, a parachute with a controlled wing-type canopy, as well as equipment that provides automatic flight of the transport complex and its guidance. With the help of the system, loads weighing up to 250 kg can be dropped both in the guidance mode using GLONASS or GPS coordinates, using a digital communication channel with ground control equipment, and in the “slave” mode. In this case, the cargo follows the "leading" paratrooper.

“Today we received a patent for a smart transport parachute system. It is designed for landing from a height of up to 8000 m thanks to the GLONASS and GPS systems; under standard weather conditions, the landing error will not exceed 100 m of the circular probable deviation. In addition, we have received a patent for a universal parachute cargo harness, with the help of which, if necessary, the payload of any parachute system can be increased to 500 kg. This will significantly simplify the delivery of goods,” said Oleg Yevtushenko, Executive Director of Rostec.

The automated parachute cargo delivery system and the universal parachute cargo harness were developed by the Ivanovo Parachute Plant Polet.

“At the moment, our cargo system is undergoing flight design tests, it is planned that by the end of 2022 the prototype will be transferred for testing to the State Flight Test Center of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The universal parachute cargo harness is undergoing research tests, during which, among other things, methods for its use on various types of aircraft in service with the Russian army will be determined,” commented Igor Nasenkov, General Director of Technodinamika JSC.
