Is Ukraine Taking the War to Russia?

Two loud bangs were heard in the Shilovo neighborhood of the Central Russian city and an ammunition depot in Belgorod was destroyed on Wednesday.

A district civil defense and emergency official told TASS that the explosions were heard in the neighborhood on Wednesday morning. Shilovo is located near the Baltimor military airfield and about 300km away from the Ukrainian border.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces struck the Russian positions on Zmiiny Island, in the Black Sea operational zone hitting a command post and destroying Strela-10 surface-to-air missile system, Ukrinform reported citing the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Ukrainian troops continued to fight on the recaptured frontier. Russian forces reportedly tried to advance towards Mykolayiv region near the villages of Tavriyske and Nova Zoria, but failed, suffered significant losses, and retreated.

“In the Black Sea operational zone, our forces inflicted damage on enemy positions on Zmiiny Island. A command post was hit, Strela-10 surface-to-air missile system was destroyed. The losses (on the Russian side) are being clarified," Ukraine’s Operational Command ‘South’ posted.

In Belgorod, several Ukrainian loitering drones reportedly destroyed a Russian ammunition depot.

"Ukraine is a sovereign country that was living peacefully within its own borders, and then another country decided to violate those borders and bring 130,000 troops across into their country. That started a war between Ukraine and Russia. And in war, Ukraine needs to strike into its opponent’s depth, to attack its logistics lines, its fuel supplies, its ammunition depots. And that’s part of it [war]," James Heappey, Minister for the Armed Forces at UK Ministry of Defence, said on the air of Times Radio.

Heappey said t's completely legitimate for Ukraine to be targeting in Russia’s depth in order to "disrupt the logistics that, if they weren’t disrupted, would directly contribute to death and carnage on Ukrainian soil."
