The South Korean military has reported that North Korea has fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) in waters off its eastern coast on Saturday.
The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said it detected the launch in waters off the North’s eastern coastal city of Sinpo at 2:07 p.m. Further details are yet to come forward. Local media reported that the intelligence authorities of South Korea and the United States are conducting a detailed analysis for additional information.
North Korea showcased a set of SLBMs, including a “mini-SLBM” during their military parade last month and claimed that they have successfully test-fired from a submarine in October last year.
The latest launch marks the North‘s 15th show of force this year. It came just three days after the country test-fired what was thought to be an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
