Russian MSTA-S 152mm Howitzer has come up against American 155m M777 and French Caesar artilery systems operated by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) as Russia claims to gain ground in the South and East of the embattled country.
The Russian Army deployed its Msta-B 152 mm howitzer crews to launch an artillery attack on UAF AFU fortifications, the Russian MoD said. "High-explosive shells are used for destroying fortifications, including concrete-reinforced positions, that allow to maximise the damage," it said.
The Msta-B artillery guns were used to destroy artillery batteries and fortified structures of the UAF. In the recent past, the UAF has received some 80 U.S., made M777 howitzers besides Caesar artillery guns from France.
The Russian MoD released a video showing the firing of a battery of Msta-B 152 mm towed howitzers whose range is up to 30 kilometres. In the video UAF artillery guns are detected using drones which also provide targeting data and visual cofirmation of the hit.
In another video, the Russian MoD showed the firing power of Grad Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). Guided by drones and aircraft, the Russians' Grad MLRS are reportedly very effective at disrupting UAF forward positions.
Able to shoot upto 12 guided rockets per minute, the Grad MLRS can pulverize enemy positions and are proving more effective than howitzers whose shells have a longer range but a much slower firing range.
Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba made an urgent appeal to Washington on Tuesday to provide it with MLRS Systems to counter Russian Grad systems.
"If Ukraine does not get MLRS as soon as possible, the situation on the battlefield, which is extremely challenging now, will get even worse. Some settlements in the areas of hostilities had already stopped to exist. Without such weapons, the Ukrainian military are unable to start the liberation of Kherson Region," he was quoted as saying in the Ukrainian media.
