Ukraine’s armed forces have received 140,000 rounds of confiscated small arms ammunition from the State Bureau of Investigation.
The ammunition rounds were seized as part of criminal proceedings regarding the illegal use of free aid goods for profit during martial law. The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported this.
The Prosecutor’s Office, together with the State Bureau of Investigation and Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), exposed two businessmen for organizing the mechanism of illegal sale of military ammunition imported into the territory of Ukraine as free aid.
In April 2022, the accused approached Ukraine’s military with an offer to import armor plates and protective helmets for free. They promised to purchase the said equipment with their own funds and requested for an end-user certificate.
Upon receiving relevant documents, the businessmen imported 1,500 armor plates and 300 protective helmets from Poland without paying customs fees. While the declared value of the goods amounted to $22,000, their market value is approximately $200,000.
The above-mentioned persons then refused to hand over the equipment to Ukraine’s military for free and began selling them at retail shops, which were raided. Ukrainian authorities discovered and seized approximately 140,000 rounds of ammunition at the shops, which were delivered to the country’s armed forces.
