Ukrainian Troops Complete Training on SAMP/T Missile Systems in Italy

A team of Ukrainian military personnel underwent training on the operation of SAMP/T air defense missile system in Italy, as per reports.

These SAMP/T systems are being transferred to Ukraine jointly by Italy and France. Deliveries will take place in the spring of 2023.

Ukraine has also sought two GM200 radars from Thales, and an agreement was signed in early February.

About 20 Ukrainian servicemen passed the training program on mastering the SAMP/T SAM at a military base in the municipality of Sabaudia, south of Rome.

The SAMP/T anti-aircraft missile system was developed by the European consortium Eurosam (MBDA Italy, MBDA France, Thales). This system is able to destroy aerodynamic targets at a distance of up to 150 km and at an altitude of up to 25 km. The system can also intercept ballistic missiles at a distance of up to 25 km and the same altitude.

The anti-aircraft missile system is built on the basis of the French Aster-30 solid-fuel anti-aircraft missile. The missile’s speed is 4,5М (1400 m\s). The weight of the warhead is 20 kg, and the starting weight is 450 kg.
