Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has agreed to produce homegrown DR-118 radar warning receivers for the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Sukhoi Su-30MKI combat aircraft.
The relevant contract was signed on March 24, the Air Force confirmed, adding that the equipment will offer a “significant leap in Electronic Warfare capabilities” for the service.
The equipment was designed and developed by Combat Air Systems Design & Integration Centre (CASDIC). BEL will manufacture the equipment, sourcing the parts & sub-assemblies from indigenous manufacturers, the IAF said.
Separately, the Indian defense ministry said in a press release, that it signed a INR 3,000 Crore ($364 million) deal with BEL for procurement of two Integrated Electronic Warfare Systems ‘Project Himshakti’. The project is under the Buy Indian- IDMM (Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) category.
Another contract was inked between the Indian MoD and BEL for the supply of DRDO-developed Medium Power Radar (Arudhra).
The Arudhra is a 4D multi-function phased array radar with electronic steering for surveillance, detection and tracking of aerial targets. IAF has already undertaken successful trials of the system & it will improve the Air Defense coverage across the operational area.
