The United States is reportedly preparing a massive $1.2 billion military aid package to Ukraine to strengthen air defense.

This defense aid is designed to meet Ukraine’s long-term defense needs. It will finance HAWK air defense systems, air defense system ammunition, and drones for air defense.

Associated Press reported on this citing U.S. officials.

The new assistance package will be provided under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).

USAI is an initiative through which the U.S. purchases new weapons and equipment from the industry, as opposed to supplying them from the Pentagon’s stockpiles.

Ukraine will also receive artillery, missiles, satellite imagery assistance, and funding for ongoing maintenance and spare parts for a variety of systems as part of this aid package.

Including this package, the U.S. has provided Ukraine with nearly $37 billion in military aid since Russia invaded in February 2022.
