Kalashnikov Tests All-new Sniper Rifle in Ukraine
Kalashnikov's 'Microwave' sniper rifle

An all-new Russian sniper rifle dubbed 'Microwave,' has been tested in Ukraine and has passed state tests.
Made by Kalashnikov Concern, the weapon will replace the legendary Draganov sniper rifle that has been in service for the last 30-odd years.
The rifle can hit a target - moving, open or camouflaged - at a distance of 1 km. At the same time, the rifle is useful in close combat due to its relatively short dimensions and light weight, a press release from Kalashnikov said today.
The 'Microwave' rifle weighs 4.8 kg, and is designed for 10 rounds. For comparison, the weight of the Draganov is aroud around 7 kg.
A big plus for the 'Microwave' is the presence of a Picatinny rail for the entire length of the rifle other than the barrel. Thus, it can be fitted with laser or optical sights, night vision devices or other attachments.
