BrahMos Missile Sale to Argentina Likely

Prospects of BrahMos missile sale to Argentina brightened as the Latin American country’s defense minister, Jorge Taiana held talks with BrahMos Aerospace officials during his visit to New Delhi on July 18.

“Taiana held a working meeting with authorities from the ‘BrahMos’ missile company, which, among other things, produces the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. There, he was able to internalize about the manufacture of the missile and its variants, as well as the production capabilities, research and continuous improvements in technology that are carried out in the mentioned center,” a statement from the Argentinian ministry of defense said.

The Russo-Indian BrahMos can be launched from fighter jets, submarines, ships, and land-based systems. BrahMos Aerospace is working on extending its range beyond the current 290km, reaching up to 450km and even 600km. A plan is also afoot to develop a hypersonic version of the missile –BrahMos II.

LCA Tejas

On June 19 this year, Argentinian aircraft maker, FAdeA and India's HAL signed a memorandum of understanding with the aim of beginning to explore the possible collaboration between both companies in the commercialization and joint development of products. The LCA Tejas, made by HAL is in the shortlist of Argentina's figher aircraft procurement program.

In June of this year, Taiana held a meeting with authorities from the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in the Argentinian capital where a presentation was made regarding the LCA Tejas aircraft.
