Indonesia has activated the second tranche of orders for Rafale fighters produced by France’s Dassault Aviation, with the Southeast Asian country now holding firm commitments for 24 aircraft.
In February 2022, Jakarta signed agreements for the acquisition of 42 Rafale F4 jets, concluding two years of negotiations with six Batch 1 aircraft, consisting of 30 single-seat and 12 double-seat aircraft. Six firm orders were placed in September 2022 and the latest batch adds another 18 aircraft.
The value of the contract was not disclosed in an official release but is believed to be in the region of $12-$15 billion.
“Indonesian industry will benefit from a substantial industrial return, not only in the aeronautical sector, but also in all the other major areas of cooperation relating to the broad portfolio of dual technologies mastered by Dassault Aviation and its industrial partners, Safran Aircraft Engines and Thales,” a press release from Dassault Aviation said back then.
