The first firing of Turkey’s  SİPER Air Defense System’s Product 2 Missile that can reach targets 150 km away was carried out on Friday.

The SIPER is considered a competitor to the American Patriot and the Russian S-400 air defense systems.

After the SİPER Product 1 missile with a range of 100+ kilometers, the first firing of the SİPER Product 2 with a range of 150+ kilometers, which is the second missile to be used in the system, was carried out successfully, Turkish Defense Industries Secretariat (SSB) announced.

The SİPER  is planned to enter the Turkish Armed Forces inventory this year with the SİPER Product 1 Missile.

The SIPER Air Defense System was developed after the U.S. denied sale of the Patriot system to Turkey. Turkey bought the Russian S-400 system as an interim arrangement until its own SIPER system was developed.

Similar to the American Patriot, the SIPER can track and engage multiple air threats including missiles, fighter jets and helicopters.
