Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, also serving as Minister of National Defense for Poland, met with Richard Marles, Australia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, in Warsaw on April 26 to discuss strengthening security and defense cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz highlighted Australia's significant partnership with NATO and expressed appreciation for Australia's support in various areas, including military cooperation, humanitarian aid, and protection of transportation infrastructure, particularly in light of the Ukraine conflict.
The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation in global security, military modernization, cybersecurity, and long-term defense collaboration. Both parties emphasized the importance of monitoring regional security threats, including the war in Ukraine.
Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz mentioned plans to develop trade exchange, specifically focusing on the arms industry, and emphasized the potential for joint initiatives and the exchange of military experiences, particularly related to equipment such as the F-35.
Deputy Prime Minister Marles affirmed the strategic importance of the bilateral relationship, citing shared values and a commitment to upholding international law. Both sides expressed optimism about future agreements that will further solidify defense ties between Poland and Australia.
