Thales has announced its partnership with the Polish Navy to equip their MIECZNIK class frigates with combat management systems, sonar technology, infrared sensors, and radar capabilities.

These enhancements are set to bolster the Polish Navy's maritime capabilities, with the first frigate expected to enter service in 2029 as part of a strategic cooperation program between Thales and the PGZ-MIECZNIK Consortium, led by Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ).

MIECZNIK frigates are designed to carry out a wide range of tasks at sea, including, among others, securing sea lines of communication and critical infrastructure. Thales' combat management system TACTICOS will serve as the central command and decision-making hub for the frigates' combat systems. TACTICOS will support critical functions, including sensor control, situation assessment, action support, and weapon control, all crucial for the operational effectiveness of naval vessels.

The MIECZNIK frigates will rely on Thales' sonar suite, featuring the BlueHunter hull-mounted sonar and the Captas-2 towed-array sonar. This combination will provide a multi-sensor assessment of the underwater environment.

In addition to advanced sonar systems, Thales will supply two complementary radars: the SM400 Block 2 and the NS50. The SM400 radar, a multifunction S-Band radar, will offer simultaneous long-range air and surface surveillance, helicopter control, and weapon control functions up to a range of 400 kilometers. The NS50 radar, working alongside the TSA 6000 IFF1 interrogator, will provide enhanced air and surface detection, tracking, and classification capabilities. The frigates will also feature ARTEMIS, a 360° naval infrared search and track system, and the STIR 1.2 EO Mk2 fire control radar.
