The Estonian Defense Forces (EDF) are poised to sign contracts worth approximately €200 million for the procurement of armored vehicles from Turkey.
More than 200 armored vehicles are earmarked for allocation to the EDF's 2nd infantry brigade, which has experienced substantial modernization efforts in recent years, according to the Center for Defense Investments.
In a notable development, four armored 4x4 vehicles are also slated for dispatch to the Rescue Agency's demining center, underlining Estonia's commitment to humanitarian and disaster relief efforts.
The Ministry of Defense of Estonia is scheduled to officially ink the procurement contracts with two Turkish defense companies in a signing ceremony on October 18, 2023.
A special highlight of the upcoming contract signing event is the planned visit of Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler to Estonia.
Last week, Estonia and Latvia signed a €690 million framework agreement with Veho, Volvo Eesti and Scania Eesti for 3,000 vehicles comprising various models of wheeled systems. Categories include logistical vehicles for paved roads and tactical vehicles for both asphalt and off-road deployments.
