Germany has announced the dispatch of new Sonobot 5 unmanned surface vessels as part of its latest military aid package.
This update was posted on the official website of the German government. This contribution is part of a previously disclosed €1 billion aid package, primarily directed at enhancing Ukraine's air defense capabilities.
The five Sonobot 5 surface drones meant for Ukraine will play a crucial role in inspecting water bodies and detecting potentially hazardous objects and ammunition on the seabed. Manufactured by the German company EvoLogics GmbH, the Sonobot 5 is a versatile surface platform adaptable to hydrographic surveying in inland waters. It is primarily used for three-dimensional mapping and can prove invaluable during search operations to identify objects that threaten people and infrastructure.
The package also includes 12 armored vehicles aimed at improving ground mobility and providing enhanced protection. Additionally, it features 7 Primoco ONE reconnaissance drones, serving as vital tools for aerial surveillance and intelligence gathering. To bolster maritime capabilities, 5 unmanned surface vessels are being provided. Furthermore, the aid package includes 10,000 safety glasses, safeguarding the well-being of Ukrainian military personnel. It also incorporates 32 SatCom terminals to facilitate secure communication, a PCB printer for advanced technological support, 5 truck tractor trains (8x8 HX81) along with 4 semi-trailers to support logistical operations, 12 MAN TGS trucks to fulfill transportation needs, and a generous allocation of 30,000 winter clothing sets, equipping Ukrainian forces to withstand harsh weather conditions.
Notably, the package covers two TRML-4D air surveillance radars, which are integral components of the IRIS-T SLM air defense system. Furthermore, Germany will provide two AMAP systems to bolster helicopter self-defense systems. This aligns with previous reports indicating that Ukrainian Armed Forces' helicopters will be equipped with the AMPS (Airborne Missile Protection System) by the Hensoldt company. The order comprises 16 AMPS sensor solutions, with the Czech system integrator LOM PRAHA handling the integration of this self-protection sensor technology into Ukrainian helicopters.
Additionally, this comprehensive aid package incorporates a collaborative effort with Denmark to prepare 25 Leopard 1A5 tanks for imminent delivery to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In parallel news, it has been reported that Finland is preparing a new aid package for Ukraine, specifically focused on safeguarding critical infrastructure during the upcoming fall and winter seasons. Finland's assistance centers on reinforcing the capabilities of Ukrainian rescuers and first responders, emphasizing the international community's commitment to Ukraine's defense and stability.
