Russia’s Buk Surface to air missile (SAM) system shot down anti-radiation missiles such the U.S.-made HARM and U.K.’s ALARM fired by the Ukrainian Army.
Anti-radiation missiles are used to target fixed and mobile radar stations that are associated with air defense systems.
“Buk SAM crews of the Vostok Group of Forces continue to effectively cover Russian troops from enemy air defence system attacks in South Donetsk direction.
Anti-aircraft gunners of the Eastern Military District successfully fight against enemy unmanned aerial vehicles and shoot down foreign-manufactured guided missiles.
The list of target hits includes U.S.-manufactured HARM anti-radar missiles, UK-manufactured ALARM missiles, HIMARS missile, and all types of high-altitude drones.
During the incomplete month of combat duty in this direction, only one anti-aircraft battery of Far Eastern servicemen had more than 70 successfully hit targets,” a Russian MoD release said.
The ALARM is an anti-radiation missile of UK origin. It was designed for the suppression of enemy air defences. The name ALARM stands for Air Launched Anti-Radiation Missile.
Reports say that the U.K. military retired the ALARM missile sometime in 2019. If the Russian MoD’s report can be confirmed, then it tallies with the assessment that the West is dumping old technology on Ukraine.
