Brazil will buy 36 Dassault Rafale fighter jets from France, including the sale of technology to build its own. The announcement has been given in a joint press conference by French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, and Brazilian president, Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva. The US$4-to-6 billion agreement will provide Brazil with modern fighters for the next 30 years. The race for the Brazilian fighter contract included Sweden with the Saab JAS-39 Gripen and the USA with the Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet. Frances will buy 10 military transport Embraer KC-390 airplanes, according to news agencies and aerospace media.
