LONDON - ITT Corporation (NYSE: ITT) has been awarded
a $16.6 million follow-on order from the United Kingdom Ministry of
Defense (MoD) for the Head Mounted Night Vision System (HMNVS). The
award is a follow-on order to the $23 million contract awarded to ITT
in August 2008, to continue to supply the U.K military with HMNVS and
in-support services. "This follow-on order allows us to maintain our support to the
Coalition forces that continue to perform critical nighttime
missions," said Mike Hayman, president and general manager of ITT's
Night Vision business. "With this award, we are increasing our
international footprint with our key allies and providing them an
indispensible weapon for nighttime operations". The HMNVS is the MoD's variant of the AN/PVS-14, which is commonly
used by the U.S. military and homeland security agencies. This is a
lightweight, single-battery monocular equipped with ITT's Generation
(Gen) 3 night vision technology, the most advanced night vision in the
field today. ITT's Gen 3 goggles provide the clearest, sharpest image
available for soldiers performing nighttime operations that give them
the advantage on the battlefield. ITT Gen 3 goggles last in excess to
10,000 hours, compared to the Gen 2 tubes that last approximately
2,000 to 4,000 hours. ITT's Night Vision business, based in Roanoke, Va., is the world's
leading developer, producer and supplier of head- and helmet-mounted
night vision solutions and image intensifiers for U.S. and allied
military forces, as well as the homeland security market.
