Indian Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced in the Lok Sabha on December 20, 2023, that India significantly increased its satellite launches, launching 396 foreign satellites and 70 domestic satellites between 2014 and 2023.

This marks a substantial increase compared to the period from 2003 to 2013, during which only 33 foreign satellites and 31 domestic satellites were launched.

Singh further stated that the revenue generated from satellite launches during the decade from 2014 to 2023 amounted to $157 million and €260 million Euros. In contrast, the revenue during the decade from 2003 to 2013 was significantly lower, with $15 million and €32 million.

Additionally, he highlighted the notable increase in the annual budget allocated to the Department of Space. The budget has seen a substantial rise from INR 6,792 Crores for the financial year 2013-14 to INR 12,544 Crores for the financial year 2023-24.

The minister also referenced global estimates and news outlets, suggesting that the space sector is projected to experience growth at a rate of 6-8% in the coming years. While the statement provides statistical data showcasing India's advancements in space exploration, it does not offer an analysis or evaluation of the implications of such developments.

Last week, Singh said ISRO achieved significant financial success by launching satellites for other countries, accumulating over INR 4,000 crore in revenue. He highlighted the robust growth of the space startup sector, noting that it has burgeoned from a single entity in 2019 to a remarkable 190 entities at present. This surge in the space startup sector has attracted private investments exceeding INR 1,000 crores, signifying a substantial increase in the interest and financial backing for space-related initiatives in India.

ISRO recently declared its plans to launch India's inaugural X-Ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat). The XPoSat mission is geared towards investigating the polarization of intense X-Ray sources, representing a noteworthy advancement in India's space exploration endeavors.
