Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has secured substantial orders totalling ₹2,759.15 crore ($332 million), to supply sensors for the Indian Navy’s Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPV).
The company has bagged a notable ₹1,701 crore contract from Goa Shipyard Ltd and a ₹972-crore order from Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE). These orders are specifically designated for the supply of 14 types of sensors intended for deployment on Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPV).
The NGOPV project, comprising eleven offshore patrol vessels, is a collaborative effort between Goa Shipyard (GSL) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) for the Indian Navy. The agreement, inked on March 30, 2023, outlines the construction of vessels set to commence delivery in September 2026.
These vessels are intended to bolster the Indian Navy's combat capability, addressing diverse operational needs such as anti-piracy measures, counter-infiltration efforts, anti-poaching activities, anti-trafficking operations, non-combatant evacuation operations, search and rescue (SAR) missions, protection of offshore assets, and mine warfare.
Furthermore, BEL has clinched an additional ₹86.15-crore order for miscellaneous spares and services since its last disclosure on December 15. This signals an ongoing trend of securing contracts for various components and services.
The NGOPV initiative aims to enhance the Indian Navy's operational capabilities across multiple fronts. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in September 2026.
