The Indonesian Army has officially received four AS 550 Fennec helicopters, along with comprehensive refurbishment and spare parts, courtesy of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense.
The handover ceremony took place at the South Terminal Apron of the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. The Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, personally handed over the helicopters to the Chief of Army Staff, General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.
The AS 550 Fennec helicopter, a product of the Eurocopter group, a joint venture between France's Aerospatiale and Germany's Daimler Chrysler Aerospace AG (DASA), is renowned for its agility and versatility in military operations.
Capable of being equipped with coaxial weapons, rockets, torpedoes, and other ammunition, the AS 550 Fennec stands as a formidable asset for the Indonesian Army. The helicopter can accommodate a total of six individuals, including two crew members and four passengers.
Powered by a Turbomeca Arril 2B engine, the Fennec boasts an impressive flight endurance of over four hours, reaching a maximum speed of 287 km/hour.
