BAE Systems has finalized the acquisition of Malloy Aeronautics, a company specializing in heavy lift drone and aeronautical technologies.

This move is part of BAE Systems' broader strategy to invest in technologies and augment its capabilities in the uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) sector.

Malloy Aeronautics is known for its design and supply of all-electric uncrewed aerial systems to both civil and military clients. The company's heavy lift quadcopters, capable of lifting payloads ranging from 68kg to 300kg over short to medium-range missions, offer cost-effective alternatives to traditional methods.

Approximately 80 employees of Malloy Aeronautics will continue their operations from the existing site in Berkshire, ensuring continuity for current customers. The collaboration between BAE Systems and Malloy, initiated in 2021, aims to further develop Malloy's existing portfolio and accelerate the introduction of new technologies on a global scale.

The collaboration has led to the joint development of the 300kg T-650 all-electric 'heavy lift' UAS, offering a potential solution for cost-effective, sustainable rapid response capabilities for military, security, and civilian customers.

Previously, the companies announced the successful demonstration of the T-600 electric uncrewed demonstrator aircraft during the REPMUS (Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping with Maritime Uncrewed Systems) NATO exercise last year. Malloy Aeronautics will now become part of FalconWorks, BAE Systems' research and development business within the Air sector, consolidating their efforts in advancing UAS technologies.
