Argentina has taken delivery of the second Embraer ERJ 140 LR (Long Range) military transport aircraft at the Aeroparque Military Air Station (AMA) in Buenos Aires.

The unveiling ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Defense, Luis Petri, who emphasized the government's commitment to revitalizing and equipping the Argentine Armed Forces. The ceremony was also attended by key military officials, including the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces, Brigadier General Xavier Julián Isaac, and the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The Embraer ERJ 140 LR is a twin-engine regional aircraft designed to enhance the capabilities of the Argentine Air Force. With a passenger capacity of 43, the aircraft can reach altitudes of up to 37,000 feet and boasts range of more than 2,500 km. Its maximum takeoff weight is 21,100 kg, featuring a low-wing design and a distinctive T-tail. The aircraft's maximum cruising speed is Mach 0.78. Additionally, its pressurized cabin ensures comfort at high altitudes.

Equipped with advanced avionics, the ERJ 140 LR includes a Flight Dynamics display for CAT II landings, five electronic flight and information system displays, and a UNIVERSAL flight management system with dual FMS and GPS.

The Embraer ERJ 140 LR is slated to join the II Air Squadron, Air Transport Group 1, in the I Air Brigade. Its deployment is expected to enhance operational air transport capacity and improve medium-range tactical mobility. The aircraft will primarily be used in military operations, civil protection, community support, and humanitarian aid tasks.

Last November, Regional One Inc. won a $7 million contract to purchase two 2003-manufactured Embraer ERJ aircraft (140 and 145). The FAA mandated configurations for 44 passengers in ERJ-140 and 50 in ERJ-145. The second aircraft, designated T-96 and utilized by Envoy Air, is currently undergoing fine-tuning and review in the United States, as per reports.
