Naval Group Selected to Provide 4 Barracuda Class Submarines to the Netherlands Navy

The Netherlands Ministry of Defence has selected Naval Group to provide submarines from the Barracuda family for its Submarine Replacement Capability project.

This award decision concludes a stringent selection process and opens a period of exclusive discussions leading to the signature of a contract.

The Group is eager to engage in the execution of this important project with its Dutch and European partners.

In the press release, Naval Group stated that this decision commits the group to implementing a full-scale strategic partnership with the Netherlands aimed at supporting the Royal Netherlands Navy submarine service and intensifying cooperation with the Netherlands’ MOD, industry, and R&D partners.

Equipped with the latest technology and systems, the new submarines will be worthy successors to the current Walrus-class fleet.

Dutch State Secretary for Defence Christophe van der Maat revealed the names of the new upcoming submarines. They are HNLMS Orka, HNLMS Zwaardvis, HNLMS Barracuda and HNLMS Tijgerhaai.
