Rheinmetall announced the acquisition of Dutch EV start-up REEQ as a first step to enter the manufacture of hybrid military vehicles.

The acquisition, finalized in March 2024, sees Rheinmetall Defence Nederland B.V. acquiring 100% of REEQ's shares. This move enables Rheinmetall to enhance its offerings with light hybrid vehicles, marking a step towards hybrid technology with fully electric drivetrains in military vehicles.

The purchase price remains undisclosed by mutual agreement.

REEQ specializes in new-generation tactical transport, including unmanned vehicles.

REEQ's current lineup includes an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV), a side-by-side buggy, and a quad, all equipped with the same fully electric drivetrain. With this acquisition, Rheinmetall can now cater to the Dutch and European markets for light tactical mobility, manned and unmanned, along with microgrid solutions. REEQ maintains its startup status within Rheinmetall, with further development and production set to continue in the Netherlands.
