Greece finalized its intent to acquire 35 Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters through a U.S. government Foreign Military Sale by signing a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) on Friday.
Last December, Greece formally requested the purchase of Black Hawks along with engines, defensive aids, self-defense weapons, and other associated equipment in a deal valued at up to $1.95 billion.
The procurement includes not only the helicopters but also personnel training and training equipment to ensure seamless integration of the aircraft into the Hellenic Army.
With the addition of the UH-60M Black Hawks to its fleet, which already includes S-70B and MH-60R maritime helicopters for the Hellenic Navy, Greece will operate multiple variants of the Hawk family.
Furthermore, Greece may also acquire Leonardo-made AW139 multi-role helicopters to replace its aging Puma fleet, which has been utilized for search and rescue (SAR) missions.
