An ammunition explosion at a military training ground in the east of the Czech Republic has left at least nine people injured, according to the army press service.

The incident occurred in the Libau training area and involved an as yet unidentified type of ammunition.

The explosion was first reported on the social media platform X, where the army press service released a statement: “We are dealing with a serious incident in the Libau training area, where an as yet unknown type of ammunition exploded. Unfortunately, there are wounded at the scene.”

Emergency response teams were quickly dispatched to the area, including a rescue helicopter that was sent to assist the injured. The extent of the injuries sustained by the nine individuals is currently unknown.

The military police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion. Authorities have cordoned off the area to secure the site and facilitate the investigation.
