Babcock has introduced its latest addition to the General Logistics Vehicle (GLV) family—the medium wheelbase variant—at Eurosatory-2024 exhibition in Paris.
This vehicle joins the long wheelbase version, which was first showcased at last year’s Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) event. The medium wheelbase GLV aims to enhance the availability of critical military assets. The vehicle features a 2.8-litre engine, delivering 200bhp and 370lb/ft of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox. This combination provides off-road capabilities, including a 39-degree approach angle, 276 mm ground clearance, and a wading depth of up to 1.8 meters. The GLV also boasts a 12.6-meter turning circle.
The new GLV can serve multiple roles, such as a command-and-control vehicle or a small team patrol vehicle. It includes four individual crew seats and sufficient storage for a four-person team’s 72-hour patrol gear, minimizing crew fatigue during long missions. The GLV family is built on the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 series platform.
Key features of the new medium wheelbase GLV include enhanced mobility across challenging terrains due to its shorter wheelbase, the tightest turning circle in its class at 12.6 meters, four individual crew seats, and storage capability to support a four-person team on a 72-hour patrol.
