A Russian Ka-29 maritime helicopter was shot down by a Ukrainian 'Magura' drone equipped with a modified R-73RDM-2 missile in the  Black Sea near Anapa on the night of June 20.

A dramatic video posted on Youtube shows the Ka-29 chasing an unmanned sea vehicle (USV) having what looks like a single missile launcher. The USV is speeding away and in the next instant the helicopter is enveloped in a hail of water and flames.

Some Russian social media users say that the helicopter was shot down by friendly fire as several Russian choppers were in the vicinity trying to shoot down Ukrainian drones as part of massive drone barrage launched at Russian targets at the same time.

“The Ka-29 MA of the Russian Navy could have been intercepted by an anti-aircraft short-range air-to-air missile R-73RDM-2, mounted on the enemy's BEC-"kamikaze" drone and aimed through the infrared sensor of the multispectral OLPC, synchronized with the combat control point of the Armed Forces of Ukraine via the Starlink channel," Russian Arms Telegram Channel reported.

The Ukrainian Directorate of Intelligence confirmed that the ‘Magura’ naval surface drone is equipped with air-to-air missiles of the R-73 class.

According to the commander of the special unit Group 13 of the Directorate, attack naval drones equipped with such missiles have already been used during combat operations in the Black Sea, and this has become a serious cause of fear and risk for Russian aviation.

"Such developments are effective - Russians are very afraid of them. When they see them, they are afraid to even fly up. And the uniqueness is that no one has such a thing. [...] This weaponry is already installed, and it will produce results ," he was quoted as saying in the Ukrainian media
