Turkish STM Exports Mortar-dropping Drone to African Nation

Turkish defense firm STM has announced the completion of the first export of its BOYGA Ammunition Dropping Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to an African nation.

The BOYGA is designed to carry 81mm mortar ammunition. Following the signing of a contract with the African country, deliveries of the BOYGA UAV are scheduled to be completed in 2024. The UAV, which was integrated into the Turkish Armed Forces' inventory in 2022, has been actively involved in counter-terrorism operations, cross-border missions, and international exercises. It recently participated in the EFES-2024 Exercise, hitting designated targets with accuracy.

The BOYGA UAV is equipped with an ballistic estimation algorithm, enabling it to drop customized 81mm mortar ammunition with pinpoint precision. It is designed to be effective in counter-terrorism and asymmetric warfare, boasting a flight endurance of 30 minutes when carrying mortar ammunition. The platform can reach a maximum altitude of 3000 meters above sea level (MSL) and has a range of 10 kilometers. Additionally, it weighs 17 kg, making it portable by a single soldier.
