Spain has announced its latest military aid package to Ukraine, which includes 10 Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks, weapons, and special equipment.
The aid will soon be handed over to the Ukrainian military.
The Leopard 2A4 tanks were repaired and restored at the Santa Barbara Sistemas plant in Seville. Alongside the tanks, the Ukrainian military will receive various excavators and anti-tank missiles.
The Spanish Defense Ministry indicated that this batch of aid would arrive in Poland over the weekend before being delivered to Ukraine. It emphasized that appropriate security measures were implemented throughout all stages of the movement of military aid.
With this delivery, the total number of Leopard 2A4 tanks transferred from Spain to Ukraine has reached 20 units. Another batch is planned for delivery in the second half of 2024. This latest group of ten tanks is part of the 19 tanks promised by the Spanish government in March 2024. The repair work was completed in three months, making the tanks ready for delivery by the end of June.
Additionally, at the end of June, the Spanish government transferred the second batch of MIM-104 anti-aircraft guided missiles for the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine. This transfer aims to enhance Ukraine's air defense capabilities to protect cities and civilian infrastructure from ongoing missile attacks from Russia.
