Rheinmetall Secures Swiss Order for 81mm Mortar Ammunition

Rheinmetall has been contracted by the Swiss Confederation to produce and supply 81mm mortar cargo ammunition.

The order is valued in the mid double-digit million euro range.

The contract includes the supply of 81mm MX2-KM mortar systems from Rheinmetall EXPAL Munitions SA and various types of 81mm mortar cartridges, including illumination (white light and infrared) and smoke discharge based on red phosphorus. These components will be manufactured by Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH at their Neuenburg am Rhein plant.

The delivery is expected to be completed by 2025, accompanied by additional services for the product launch. The cartridges are specifically designed for the Swiss armed forces' MX2-KM mortars, creating a cohesive system entirely produced by Rheinmetall.

The cargo cartridges were tested and verified at a site on the Spanish coast, highlighting Rheinmetall's capability in manufacturing steep-fire mortar ammunition. This order emphasizes the company's role in providing advanced military solutions.
