Russia’s Rostec said it has shipped another batch of 2S43 Malva 152mm self-propelled artillery guns to the troops.
This is the first domestic wheeled howitzer created on the BAZ chassis with the 8x8 formula. Its characteristic features are a longer range and lower operating costs than tracked howitzers.
"Malva" is designed to destroy command posts, defensive structures, artillery and missile batteries, air defense positions, armored vehicle columns and enemy manpower. The howitzer has a "simultaneous fire raid" mode, when several shells fired along different trajectories and at different speeds reach the target at the same time.
"One of the important advantages of the Malva self-propelled artillery gun is its improved maneuverability, as well as the speed of deployment and dismantling of positions, which is very important in the conditions of intense counter-battery combat in the special operation zone. In addition, the wheeled howitzer has simpler maintenance compared to tracked self-propelled artillery units. The rate of fire of the 2S43 is more than seven rounds per minute, the firing range is more than 24 km, its ammunition stock is up to 30 rounds," said Bekkhan Ozdoyev, Industrial Director of the Conventional Arms, Ammunition and Special Chemicals Complex of the Rostec State Corporation.
The dimensions of the Malva allow it to be transported by military transport aircraft - the weapon fits into the cargo cabin of the Il-76 and can be quickly delivered over long distances.
The self-propelled gun has a cabin armor made of high-strength steel grades, which provides protection from small arms and shrapnel.
