The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) subsidiary Il has obtained a type certificate from Russian aviation regulator, Rosaviatsiya for modification to the Il-76 cargo plane to develop a new aircraft with the designation Il-76TD-90A.
The new Il-76TD-90A will feature improved flight performance, modern avionics and a reduced minimum crew complement of three people. These improvements will make the aircraft unique in the market of heavy ramp transport aircraft and cost-effective. This will also make it possible to operate the aircraft on all air routes from any international airport.
To obtain the certificate, Il carried out a significant amount of work to structure previously developed design documents for the Il-76 aircraft design. The certificate will help in creating a new commercial transport aircraft, the Il-76TD-90A, in the interests of Russian and foreign customers.
Currently, commercial carriers around the world operate more than 100 Il-76TD aircraft and its modifications, built by the Ilyushin design bureau in Tashkent (presently in Uzbekistan) whose service life is coming to an end.
"Foreign customers of civil aircraft are accustomed to operating aircraft for which type certificates have been issued. Receipt by Il of such a document with a type certificate data card will undoubtedly increase the export potential of the aircraft, record the flight performance characteristics and operational limitations of the machine, as well as documents defining the standard design.
In addition, obtaining a certificate will allow for more transparent implementation and recording in the documentation of subsequent changes to the aircraft design, which, given the long-term plans of PJSC Il to develop the Il-76 program, is also a positive effect," commented Dmitry Yadrov, head of the Federal Air Transport Agency.
