Denmark is poised to bolster its military aid to Ukraine with a massive DKK 46.1 billion ($6.8 billion) allocation through 2028, pending final approval from the Finance Committee, in a major move to enhance its defense capabilities.
The Danish government has announced a new military assistance package worth approximately DKK 783 million ($115 million) as part of its ongoing support for Ukraine. The package is designed to meet Ukraine's immediate and long-term military needs, further solidifying Denmark's commitment to aiding Ukraine in its defense against Russia.
The latest support package includes funding for the purchase of military equipment through the Ukrainian defense industry and contributions to the industrial pool, which has been increased by DKK 300 million ($44 million) in 2024. Additionally, DKK 112 million ($16 million) has been earmarked for donations through the Ukrainian defense industry.
Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen emphasized the importance of Denmark's continued support, stating, "Putin continues unabated the brutal and bloody attacks against the Ukrainians. It is crucial that Denmark continues to support Ukraine so that they are able to defend themselves. This twentieth military support package has been put together on the basis of Ukraine's wishes and needs and must support Ukraine both in the short term and in the coming years."
Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen echoed this sentiment, highlighting Denmark's leadership in international support for Ukraine. "Denmark is and will remain among Ukraine's biggest supporters. We have continuously shown that where there is a will, there is a way, and Denmark has set the international standard for support to Ukraine. Today we are taking another step with the twentieth military donation package, which will provide Ukraine with much-needed military equipment, which will make a difference against Russia's war of aggression," he said.
The full details of the donation package remain classified for operational and security reasons, but it is part of a larger financial commitment under the Ukraine Fund. This fund, with a total allocation of DKK 64.8 billion ($9.5 billion) for the period 2023-2028, is dedicated to supporting Ukraine militarily. So far, DKK 46.1 billion ($6.8 billion) has been allocated for military aid through 2028, pending final approval from the Finance Committee.
