FN U.K. has entered a strategic alliance with U.S.-based TV Ammo, Inc. (True Velocity) to manufacture the .338 Norma Lightweight Medium Machine Gun (LWMMG) at its Slade Green, Kent facility.
The manufacturing initiative is part of a broader international partnership between True Velocity and FN Browning Group subsidiaries, including FN America, which was announced last month. Both partnerships aim to position FN entities as primary producers of True Velocity’s advanced lightweight medium machine gun platform.
The .338 Norma LWMMG, known for its recoil-mitigated, impulse-averaging design, offers extended range and enhanced terminal performance while maintaining reduced weight and improved controllability. Military units in the U.K., the U.S., and other allied nations have expressed interest in this lightweight machine gun system, which seeks to deliver the range and effects of a .50-caliber machine gun in a lighter and more maneuverable platform similar in size to the M240 machine gun.
The partnership was further highlighted at the Close Combat Symposium Range Day at Cranfield University in Shrivenham, where the .338 Norma LWMMG was displayed. Earlier this year, True Velocity secured a contract from the U.S. Department of Defense for continued evaluation of the weapon system, which is part of a program aimed at deploying a lightweight machine gun chambered in .338 Norma.
