The Indian Navy and the South African Navy have formalized an Implementing Agreement (IA) focused on ensuring the safety of the South African Navy's submarine crew in the event of distress or accidents.

This agreement, signed by Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, and Vice Admiral Monde Lobese, Chief of the South African Navy, marks a significant step in enhancing maritime safety and cooperation between the two nations, Indian defense ministry said in an official release today.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Indian Navy will provide assistance to the South African Navy by deploying its Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) when needed. The DSRV is a specialized vehicle designed for rescuing submariners in distress, underscoring the commitment of both navies to mutual support in critical situations.
